Andrew Lapthorn completed his studies in 'Furniture, Fine Craftsmanship and Design' in 1981 at one of the foremost establishments of its kind in the country, Rycotewood College, Thame. At the same time he passed with distinction his Licentiateship of the Society of Designer Craftsmen. He has been running his own business making bespoke furniture ever since.
  
Set amongst 80 acres of industrial and naval buildings of architectural significance the workshops are situated in the grounds of the Historic Dockyard in Chatham, Kent, within 25 minutes of the London M25.
His work is characterised by strong sculptural elements in context with the environment, where form and function vie with each other resulting in a fresh and timeless look.
